Several fun trail themed events are planned for Saturday to honour the Trans Canada Trail in Tillsonburg.
TILLSONBURG - Oxford County and the Town of Tillsonburg will be celebrating the Trans Canada Trail tomorrow as part of Canada's 150 celebrations.
They are hosting a celebration to mark the connection of the Great Trail across Canada as it runs through Tillsonburg. Manager of Transportation and Waste Management Frank Gross tells Heart FM they have a lot of fun events planned to mark this occasion.
"We are going to have some face painting and a scavenger hunt for the kids as well as a guided trail walk with staff from the Long Point Region Conservation Authority. We have some maps that we have printed of the Trans Canada Trail within Oxford County, we will be serving a light lunch and it is going to be a really great day on the trail."
The party will kick off at 11 a.m. at the trailhead on Tillson Ave and it runs until 2 p.m.
The Trans Canada Trail is the longest network of recreational trails in the world. Every Canadian province and territory is home to its own stretch of The Great Trail, which is owned and operated at the local level. Once complete, it will connect 15,000 communities along 24,000 kilometres of trail, coast to coast across Canada.
Local dignitaries will be in attendance including Warden David Mayberry, Mayor Stephen Molnar, MP Dave Mackenzie and MPP Ernie Hardeman.
