Effective September 14th recycling will be pushed up to once a week.
OXFORD COUNTY - Those living in the rural areas of Oxford County will enjoy a revised recycling and garbage collection beginning in September. Another change is everything collected will be transported in the same truck. Waste Management Coordinator for County of Oxford, Pamela Antonio, knows this is going to satisfy residents and make recycling a much simpler task. "We are going to increase the recycling collection to weekly, so your garbage and recycling will be collected on the same day each week. Another change is that we are moving from how you put your fibres in one box, and containers in another blue box to what is called a single stream program. Now you would put both your fibres and containers into the same box, residents won't have to separate their materials."
Unsatisfied residents throughout the rural areas of Oxford County have had their voices heard effective September 14th when the new collection process will commence. Antonio, details the process that was taken to get to this point. "We did a three year long process through the waste management strategy and one of the things that came out of it was being able to collect into one vehicle. Your garbage and your recycling are separate from one another but they will be collected in the same truck. We've got our 50/50 split between rural and urban collection so we were a very good fit for co-collection of material."
Waste Management Coordinator for the County of Oxford, Antonio, explains that although it is a big step for the county Woodstock residents will have to wait a little longer. "I know that they are looking at what the county is doing to see whether or not there could be anything they could transfer over into their own program. The city is very progressive with their programs, and I can see if there is any changes they can make I'm sure they will try to do so." Mayor of East Zorra Tavistock, Don Mckay, knows this new system will be very welcomed and is one step closer to more convenient recycling.
