OPP are on the lookout after a child was approached by two strangers in Ingersoll
INGERSOLL - Oxford County OPP are on the lookout in Ingersoll after receiving a report of a suspicious person.
A concerned parent called police after their child was approached on Saturday.
At around 8:20pm, an 11 year old boy was walking when he was approached by a vehicle at the intersection of Hillside Road and Victoria Street. The male driver and female passenger asked the youth if he wanted to come with them for a drive to a nearby town. The child said no and fled the scene.
The male driver is described as a dark coloured male, 30 to 35 years old with shoulder length dark hair. The female is described as white, 30 to 35 years old with medium length brown hair.
The vehicle is described as a sports utility or compact utility vehicle with 4 doors, blue in colour and tinted windows.
Constable Stacey Culbert says an investigation is underway.
"We're in the process right now of continuing the investigation; we're hoping there may have been some other witnesses. It may have been just a mistake, the person maybe made a bad judgement call in asking a kid for directions or something like that but we want to get to the bottom of it."
Anyone with information should contact Oxford OPP at 1-800-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
Culbert adds all parents should have a talk with their kids about what to do when they're approached by a stranger; especially with the summer holiday coming up.
"Practice with them screaming at the top of their lungs 'no' to draw attention to themselves. They should know what the right thing to do which is say no, turn around, walk in the opposite direction, go to a safe place for help immediately and follow up with contacting the police as well."
