WOODSTOCK - They're joining forces to help make things easier for families in need this holiday season.
Operation Sharing's The Christmas Place has teamed up with the Woodstock Salvation Army.
The Christmas Place has been a holiday staple in Oxford County for over 40 years now. Director Kathy Gardiner says it allows families in need to do their Christmas shopping.
"We offer very low-priced gifts, they're all brand new, they're all donated, and people spend a maximum of $4 per child. The only thing they have to do to qualify is get an invitation from any social agency or church in Oxford County."
That invitation includes a website URL, which takes you to the online registration form. There will also be an option to sign up for food assistance from the Salvation Army, and Gardiner says they'll receive a gift card while shopping for Christmas gifts.
"When the parents shop at the Christmas Place, we will have a Salvation Army person there to give them their gift card so they can shop at local stores for their Christmas dinner."
This Friday is the deadline to register for The Christmas Place.
The shopping days will be taking place on Tuesday December 10th, Wednesday December 11th, and Thursday December 12th. All of those who are registered will have a designated shopping day based on alphabetical order.
The Christmas Place will be closed on Friday December 13th, before it reopens for the kid's shopping day on Saturday December 14th. Volunteers will help kids shop and wrap gifts for their parents and siblings.
With that being said, The Christmas Place is in need of volunteers. Those who are interested can contact Volunteer Coordinator Cathy Laye by calling 519-537-7185 or send an e-mail to christmasplace1@gmail.com.
Kathy Gardiner stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Monday December 2nd. You can listen to the full interview below:
Heart FM has been collecting donations for The Christmas Place through the Stuff the Bus campaign and you can find more information online here.
