Woodstock City Council has approved a combined total of $80,990 between 22 different organizations.
WOODSTOCK - It was a slightly heavy agenda during today's meeting for Woodstock City Council.
One of the biggest recommendations for councillors to negotiate was the Community Grant Program. After discussion, they carried the motion in favour of funding 22 community organizations within the city.
The Community Grants Advisory Committee met on March 26 to review applications for the Spring intake of 2024. A total of $140,490 from slot revenue was available for disbursement.
Mayor Jerry Acchione mentions the amount of grants that were offered to be given and adds what was interesting about this approval.
"We authorized about $80,000 worth of grants to be given out to different organizations. What was interesting was a lot of these organizations were youth-related, and I want to thank those organizations that are doing so much here in the City of Woodstock."
$59,500 will remain in the community grants account for the fall intake.
Acchione also adds that, unfortunately, not everyone was able to get grant money.
"We had over $240,000 worth in requests, which far exceeded what we had to offer, but we are certainly going to help on many different levels."
Grants are available to volunteer, non-profit, or charitable organizations to help fund programs, events, and initiatives that enhance the overall well-being of the community.
