It was a day to help raise money for organizations in Oxford County. CNOY had three events across the County.
OXFORD COUNTY - It was another successful Coldest Night of the Year event in Woodstock.
Close to 300 people took to the sidewalks of the Friendly City on Saturday to raise money for Operation Sharing. Event Director, Scott McKaugue says he was pleased with the results.
"There haven't been any negatives in the 5 years. We reached our fundraising goal, we had a good turnout, and everyone was safe and happy and well fed."
The goal for Woodstock's event was $140,000, and that was surpassed with $146,659 being raised. There were other events that happened in Oxford County as well. Over 200 walkers participated in the Ingersoll and Tillsonburg.
They came out to raise funds for the United Way Oxfords Light house Transitional homes. Executive director Kelly Gilson talks about how much the events help support the organization.
"In Ingersoll, we were able to reach 106 percent of our goal, which just blew our socks off. In Tillsonburg we're a little behind at 82 percent, but it is not about the competition, it is absolutely about the dollars being available to make a difference in the community."
Ingersoll raised over $63,000 and Tillsonburg brought in over $49,000. The totals from both Town's brings the grand total to over $112,000 for United Way Oxford.
