High School Students in Oxford County have a chance to win $800 from Community Futures Oxford.
High School Students in Oxford County are invited to join the Community Futures Oxford Student Challenge for a chance to win $800.
The kids are asked to come up with a sustainability project or business idea that will address one of the 70 actions in the Future Oxford Sustainability Plan. General Manager of Community Futures Oxford Allan Simm says four finalists will compete in a dragons den style pitch at the Future Oxford Expo.
"So the competition will heat up on Thursday April 20th as one of the highlights of the Future Oxford Expo at the Oxford Auditorium and the four finalists will be asked to compete in a Dragons Den style pitch for the grand prize of $800."
The winning pitch could also be eligible for funding through the future Oxford Legacy fund. Simm says they are happy to be sponsoring this event.
"Community Futures Oxford is proud to sponsor the Student Competition. It’s a natural fit for us, as we help entrepreneurs access funding for new projects, including the Future Oxford Legacy Fund. We know students are full of potential and untapped ideas and if we can encourage them to mine out some of those ideas, we could discover some real gems that could be real difference makers for creating a more sustainable community."
Chair of the Future Oxford Committee Chris Friesen says this is going to be a major highlight of the Expo this year.
"The Community Futures Oxford Student Competition is an event that will be highly anticipated at this year's Future Oxford Expo. It's about taking the concept of Future Oxford and handing it to the younger generation and letting them take and run with it and get their creative juices flowing. We can't wait to see what they'll come up with."
