Woodstock will hand out $22,000 in OLG Slot proceeds to two community organizations
WOODSTOCK – Woodstock City council approved a pair of grants for community organizations Thursday night.
"It's funded by some of the proceeds from the [Woodstock Raceway Ontario Lottery and Gaming] Slots, so we put some of that money back into the community to non-profit groups," said Councillor Paul Plant.
The Woodstock Agricultural Society, also known as the Woodstock Fair Board, will receive $5,000 for children's acts and entertainment at the fair.
The Rotary Club of Woodstock will receive $17,000 to buy a boat and motor to improve safety at the Dragon Boat Festival at Pittock Conservation Area.
"Both worthwhile causes in the community and good uses for the slot money," Plant said.
