Arpan Khanna says it has been the honour of a lifetime serving as the MP for Oxford, and he would like to continue doing so.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Conservative Member of Parliament for Oxford County is running for re-election.
Arpan Khanna was first elected during the by-election back in June 2023. He secured 43 percent of the vote in the end, with 16,144 votes cast in his favour.
Since day one, Khanna has insisted on having an open door policy, willing to help his constituents in any way he can. He has helped thousands of people with their federal government concerns since then, while also being active in the community.
"I started a youth council to inspire the next generation and we worked on projects like fixing the Beachville tracks which were dangling in limbo for almost a few years. We set up a Tillsonburg pop-up clinic because one of the number one things I heard last time from Tillsonburg was they felt there was no representation in that area, so we made sure to set up an office so they can have direct access to me and our services."
But with just under two years in office under his belt, Khanna says he's just getting started. He would like to unleash Oxford's full potential.
"I want to make sure we can make more, grow more, produce more, and harvest more right here in Canada especially right now more than ever with what's going on. My goal has always been to unite our community, be there for them in a time of need, while finding real solutions that elevate Oxford while also putting Canada first."
If he's elected for another four years in office, Khanna would like to continue being voice for Oxford in Ottawa.
"Canadians in general are working harder and harder but barely getting by. I want help build a Canada where anyone that works hard and plays by the rules can achieve that Canadian promise. They will be able to buy a decent home in a safe neighbourhood and be able to raise their children with their values in a country that is united under our proud flag."
Khanna has won the hearts of many residents during his time in office. His campaign has seen a record number of sign requests, and he says close to 300 people attended his campaign launch in Woodstock on Saturday.
"That launch really brought everyone together from all demographics. We had some folks that have been here for generations, we had some new Canadians, and different age groups. It was just a great celebration of everything we have accomplished in the last two years and excitement looking forward to the future."
Outside of politics, Khanna is a member of Oxford Fish and Game and likes to visit a shooting range from time to time. He has also volunteered with GlobalMedic for almost 10 years now, dropping off hygiene kits and food to local organizations including Operation Sharing, the Helping Hand Food Bank, and the Salvation Army.
Khanna is a proud husband and father of two sons, two year old Arvin and one year old Ayvan. He moved to Woodstock with his family in 2022, and he says it has felt like home since day one.
"I wasn't fortunate to be born and raised here but my son is. Ayvan was born here in Woodstock and I wish I was here sooner. It's a great community, the work we have been doing is phenomenal and the support I have received is very humbling."
The federal election is scheduled for April 28th.
