Police are reminding shop keeps to keep their eyes open for fake money after two incidents on Norwich Ave.
WOODSTOCK - A heads up for business owners in Woodstock after two cases of counterfeit money being passed around in Woodstock.
On Monday afternoon a man tried to make a purchase at a business on Norwich Ave using a fake $20 bill. He is described as white 5'9 with brown hair, wearing white shoes, white zip up jacket and sunglasses. The man also tried to cover his face with a hat.
Then on Tuesday a woman tried to us a fake $50 bill at another business on Norwich Ave in Woodstock. She is described as having dark skin, about 20-30 years old with long curly dark hair.
Woodstock Police offer the following advice if you suspect someone is trying to use fake money at your place of business.
Assess the situation to ensure that you are not at risk. Then do the following:
* Politely refuse the note and explain that you suspect that it may be counterfeit.
* Ask for another note (and check it too).
* Advise the person to check the note with the local police.
* Inform your local police of a possible attempt to pass suspected counterfeit money.
Be courteous. Remember that the person in possession of the bill could be an innocent victim who does not realize that the note is suspicious.
