A recommendation from staff asks Oxford County to make funding a study on Beachville wastewater services a priority.
BEACHVILLE - Oxford County is debating whether or not to bring water and waste water services to everyone in Beachville.
Warden David Mayberry says they do have a number of people on water service, but not waste water services.
"The problem is that if you don't have waste water services, the waste has to go somewhere, which is generally into the ground and it can contaminate other people's wells. And so we noticed there are a few wells that are questionable and we'd like to look at 'Do we supply water to everyone, or do we finally get the whole village of Beachville hooked up to sewers?'"
The recommendation from staff is to make Beachville a priority according to Mayberry.
"So the request is to provide funding to do the initial study. To say 'What would it cost, what are some of the factors that should be thought about?' And then we'll move on from there."
Even if they do move forward from this point, it will still be a considerable bit of time before any ground breaking could happen.
"It'll take probably a couple of years to get the study done and then I would guess another 6 - 8 years before they actually get to doing anything. It all takes time - there are environmental assessments that need to be done. But this is the first step."
