County Council approved the project of a new subdivision in the Town of Ingersoll.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Town of Ingersoll will see a new addition.
Members of Oxford County's Council came together today during their meeting, approving the development of a new subdivision. However, the Councilors expressed the concerns that they received from residents, like significant safety risks and hazards the project would potentially create.
Warden Marcus Ryan expresses his thoughts regarding how this would help the housing crisis.
"We are in a housing crisis, people need houses. If we are going to get out of the crisis, people need new houses to live in. This one is a low-density development, ideally, it would be a medium or high-density development, it complies with our policy and it's more units, and that's a good thing."
Residents of Ingersoll have expressed their concerns about this movement, and worry that it will take more money out of their pockets.
Ryan then expresses the details about the project going forward.
"Anybody who builds a row of townhomes or a small apartment building can say, 'I am going to offer some of these at a lower rate.' Nothing is saying it has to be at market rate. It will be up to residents to decide whether this development is attainable or not."
This project would consist of the creation of seven residential lots for single detached dwellings, six blocks for street-fronting townhouse dwellings (40 dwelling units total), a multiple-unit residential block, which will accommodate 26 residential townhouse units, to be developed through future planning of a condominium, and the extension of Keith Mabee Boulevard and Fuller Drive.
This is an undeveloped piece of property that private property developers gave the proposal that complies with both Oxford Counties official plan.
It has already been reviewed by the town of Ingersoll council in compliance with their zoning by-law. The development application complies with all of Oxford County's policies and Ingersoll's policies.
