OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council looked over the proposed changes for the county's federal boundaries at their most recent meeting.
Canada's independent elections commission takes a look at the federal riding boundaries every 10 years, using the latest census data to make recommendations.
Under the current proposal for Oxford County; we would lose the town of Tillsonburg and the Zorra Township communities of Banner, Thamesford, Medina, Uniondale, and Kintore.
Tillsonburg would become a part of the Halidmand-Norfolk riding. Banner, Thamesford, and Kintore would be incorporated into the riding London-East, while Uniondale and Medina would be incorporated into the new riding of Elgin-Middlesex-Thames.
Under this proposal, the Oxford County riding would also gain several communities in Brant County including Paris, Burford, Scotland, and Oakland.
Oxford Warden Larry Martin is not a fan of this proposal.
"Why are they trying to fix something that isn't broken just because they can every 10 years? I don't think it's broken, I think what we have is working well, and change for the sake of change isn't always good."
The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario is currently accepting feedback. Written submissions will be accepted until September 25th and a public hearing will be taking place at the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre in London on Friday, October 28th starting at 6:30 p.m.
