Oxford County is in the market for a new head of tourism. Cathy Bingham, who has been with the County for over 12-years, and was one of the founding members of Tourism Oxford is set to retire at the end of the year. CAO Peter Crockett on what Bingham has brought to the table. "Without question, Cathy is a very strong advocate for Oxford County's tourism industry. She's got a passion, an innovation, and an excitement about that area that's second to none. She's played a huge role in establishing Tourism Oxford." The good news for the County, is that Bingham will stay on in a part-time role starting in the fall. Crockett says that will allow for some training and transition time for the new Tourism Specialist over a few months, before taking over full-time in the New Year. "We're very concerned obviously about continuity and transition. Cathy has asked for the opportunity to phase-out, so to speak, and I thought there'd be an opportunity to phase in as well, to make the transition smooth." Crockett says the new Tourism Specialist would ideally understand the players in the tourism industry, understand the tourism opportunities in the county and also to be tech-savvy. The County is set to launch a new geo-adventure app next month as a way to promote local tourism.
