Oxford County Council has received an update on the 20-Year Managed Forest Plan.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council reviewed the 20-Year Managed Forest Plan recently.
During the latest council meeting, the plan was brought forward with the updates they plan to make this year.
Warden, Marcus Ryan explains why it is important to maintain the forests in the County.
"We know forests are an important part of our environment. Their roots clean our water, their leaves clean our air, and Oxford County tries to manage those forests in such a way they are healthy."
Ryan adds it is tougher now to take care of the forests as insects, but the County is putting forth a great effort to maintain the forest lands they have.
It was said that last year the County planted 12,000 trees to forest new areas, and planted another 700 for reforestation of existing wood and wetlands. The program also made the County $14,000 through commercial timber harvesting, which promoted forest sustainability within the County.
