Police are reminding rural residents to lock their doors and be on the lookout for suspicious behaviour after a rash of break and enters.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County OPP is reminding everyone that crime prevention is a shared responsibility.
Police have responded to several rural break and enters over the past couple of weeks. A lot of the incidents have occurred in Zorra Township and East Zorra Tavistock. With this in mind they are asking the community to keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour and vehicles. Don't hesitate to call police if you suspect something might be awry in your neighbourhood.
They also want to remind everyone to lock their doors, barns, sheds and vehicles. Rural properties are also an appealing target. Locations which were once thought of as "off the radar" are no longer out of the reach of thieves.
OPP want residents to take a moment to ensure your doors and windows are locked. Remove valuables from plain view within your vehicle. Leave exterior lighting on during overnight hours. When away from home for an extended period, inform neighbours, and ask someone to visit your property regularly. All home and business owners are encouraged to review their current security practices.
As the temperature starts to heat up, criminals will continue to look for unlocked doors and properties. Don't make it easy for them! Be observant in your neighbourhood, and report suspicious activity, immediately. Your call could prevent criminal activity from occurring in your community.
Property crime affects everyone. Working together, we can reduce the impact. Call police at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.oxfordcrimestoppers.com, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
