The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit has recovered the body of a 68 year old Hamilton man in Waterford.
WATERFORD - Police are now identifying a man who died after falling through the ice in Waterford.
The OPP, Norfolk County Fire and Rescue Services, Paramedics, and Air Ambulance were called to the Waterford North Conservation Area on Saturday night around 5 p.m. after two people fell through the ice.
A 68 year old man from Hamilton was ice fishing when he fell through. A nine year old boy from Burlington was skating nearby and also fell through when he tried to help save the man. Thanks to quick reactions from bystanders, the child was pulled out of the water, but although several attempts were made the rescuers could not reach the man.
The Norfolk County Fire and Rescue Services suspended their search for the man due to safety concerns as the conditions continued to deteriorate.
On Sunday afternoon the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was able to recover the man's body.
68 year old Jani Daliyanazlou was pronounced deceased by the attending coroner.
