The Woodstock Salvation Army is looking to raise $100,000 before 4:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve. It has currently raised approximately $43,000.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Salvation Army is calling for help and donations for this year's Christmas Kettle Campaign.
Community Ministries Officer Naomi Dalley says this year the need is even greater than before.
"Our food assistance has gone up in terms of need by 56 percent, and since August of 2021, 12 percent of the people who have requested our services are new to us."
The annual fundraiser aims to provide food hampers for over 450 families and toys for over 350 children in the Woodstock area. Leftover funds are then used to assist with food security through the year.
The fundraising goal is to reach $100,000 before the deadline on December 24th at 4:00 p.m. Currently less than half of the target has been raised.
Dalley says volunteers are short this year, in part because seniors make up half the normal volunteer force and many are still concerned with COVID-19 and other illnesses going around. She believes another reason is people are just too busy this year now that they are free to do many activities that were not available during the pandemic.
Those wishing to volunteer can be assured that there are many positions available in the comfort of the indoors.
"We do have 11 locations available to us to fill, now we haven't had all of those kettles filled on any one day during our campaign yet, so there's lots of options. Only two of them are outside, the rest are in comfortable locations."
Anyone looking to get involved can call the Woodstock Salvation Army at 519-539-6166, or visit their church anytime from Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
