About $40,000 in damage has been reported after a fire at Cedarview Gracious Retirement Living in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - No one was hurt after a fire broke out at a Woodstock retirement home.
The Woodstock Fire Department was called out to Cedarview Gracious Retirement Living on Finkle Street at around 1:20 a.m. today.
Officials say the fire originated on a second floor balcony, and firefighters were able to keep it from spreading.
Fire Chief Jeff Slager credits their quick response to working smoke alarms.
"This incident is a perfect example of how working smoke alarms, coupled with staff training and response, plays a critical role should a fire occur in your building. No injuries and minimal property damage are directly due to these being in place."
The damage is estimated at about $40,000 and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
