Don McKay has announced he will not seek re-election after 15 years as the Mayor of East-Zorra-Tavistock.
EAST-ZORRA-TAVISTOCK - It's the end of an era in East-Zorra-Tavistock as the Township will elect a new mayor in September.
Don McKay has announced he is not going to run again in the upcoming municipal election. McKay has been the Mayor of EZT for the past 15 years and has a lot of great memories over that time.
"The prosperity in East-Zorra-Tavistock, working with a great staff and council and in a great community, it's just been a wonderful 15 years of experience and it's just time to move onto something different."
McKay also served as the Liberal candidate for Oxford County in the last Federal Election. He says he his done with politics for now and is excited to move forward with the next chapter in his life.
"No further plans, we kind of do one step at a time, it took a long time to come to the decision not to seek re-election as mayor, so we want to let that be known and then we will consider all options."
McKay explains why he decided to make this announcement now.
"It's time for a change and having come to that conclusion, I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of that, so that their is no hidden agenda's going on and just trying to be open and transparent."
