Several volunteers turned out Saturday to construct two playgrounds at the public school
Students at Eastdale Public School in Woodstock now have somewhere to climb and swing.
Several parents and other volunteers came out Saturday for the community playground build.
Eastdale Principal Regina Smith says the $100,000 they raised was enough money to put in two playgrounds.
"We have three developmental education classes here so we have an accessible playground for some of the students who are in wheelchairs and we have a number of different climbing apparatus meant for younger students and a couple meant for the older students as well."
President of the Woodstock Oxford Rotary Club Kevin Clarke says his club donated $20,000 to the build and several Rotarians were at the build to help.
"My mandate for this year was to focus very local so when this opportunity came to us, probably just over a year ago, it was something the club very quickly and easily got behind because it will help so many children for many, many years."
Parent Volunteer John says offering his services to the build was never in question.
"I love the neighbourhood I live in. I'm very fortunate for this neighbourhood but there is no playground. When my daughter wants to go to a playground, when you've got to get into a vehicle and drive, it's just not fair. We've had a great reaction from the community and it's just wonderful. When people got up this morning there was no playground and when they go to bed tonight there is going to be a playground. It's just amazing stuff."
The playground equipment now needs to be inspected before the children are allowed on it. The school's principal Regina Smith expects it to be open by mid week.
