Very rarely, if ever, do you hear of a municipal land auction. But that's what happened in East-Zorra-Tavistock last week. The township put up 7 plots of residential land in Tavistock for public auction. It was surplus from land the town purchased last year to create a by-pass road for the 5 corners. Mayor Don McKay says the auction was a success. "We had close to 100 people show up, 26 registered as potential buyers, and they all sold. We realized $590,000 from the sale of those 7 building lots." McKay says the new owners can get their building permits by June 1st, and expects construction will begin almost immediately. "These are fully serviced lots...so we anticipating that there will be very immediate construction on them. If not, they're required to restore the topsoil and seed it so there will be a nice lawn setting, and they won't be left vacant."
