Economically prosperous, connected, and engaging. Just a few areas of focus that will be in Oxford County's first-ever Strategic Plan. A draft of the plan was shown to County Council Wednesday. "The plan sets out six areas of focus for Oxford County that will establish the local government partnership as one that: 1. Works together for economic prosperity and quality of life for its people; 2. Is well connected through transportation networks, community access and connectivity; 3. Thinks ahead and wisely shapes the future through political advocacy, effective policy, and sustainability practices; 4. Informs and engages through greater public participation and open and effective communication; 5. Performs and delivers results through exceptional customer service; and 6. Is an employer of choice that attracts and develops highly qualified employees." County Council agreed to attend a workshop to go over the draft next month. County CAO Peter Crockett says the shorter the plan is, the better. "It will be very brief. The best Strategic Plan is the shortest document. If we can get it on one page, it's going to be on one page. What I've found historically is the thicker the document the more it tends to sit on a bookshelf. I want a living, breathing Strategic Plan and that's what we're trying to bring forward," said Crockett. Work started on the plan back in August of 2011. Consultation sessions and planning have been the bulk of the work thus far. After Council attends the workshop, staff will look for final adoption of the plan expected later this spring.
