Oxford County has had 34 confirmed cases of Influenza Type A so far this winter.
We are not out of the woods yet when it comes to the Flu season in Oxford County.
This year we have had 34 confirmed cases of influenza A in Oxford County. Supervisor in Health Protection Joanne Andrews tells Heart FM they are hoping that the worst part of the flu season is over.
"We are getting past the peak it looks like for influenza and that's a good thing and that is more typical for the influenza season to see that peak happen around the end of January and early February. Last year the peak came a little bit later in the year and that was different than the general flu season."
Andrews says they also had to deal with three influenza type A outbreaks this year at long term care and retirement residences in Oxford County.
She did note that we do not have any current outbreaks happening at this time. Andrews says the best way to protect yourself from the flu is by getting the flu shot. You can still get the flu shot at certain pharmacies and by making an appointment with the health unit.
