Sobey's and Foodland in Woodstock will match all donations to Food for Friends until Thanksgiving.
WOODSTOCK - Foodland and Sobeys in Woodstock is challenging their customers to support the Operation Sharing Food for Friends Program.
Starting tomorrow until Thanksgiving the two stores will match every donation made to the popular program. Food for Friends provides food cards to those less fortunate in Oxford County, allowing them to do their own grocery shopping at a real store, instead of having to use a food bank. Owner operator of Woodstock Foodland Chris Chapman tells Heart FM they are issuing a challenge to their customers.
"So if your in the habit of donating a quarter when you pick up your groceries for your family and your thinking of those less well off then yourself, we will match that and make it $50 cents and if you want to challenge me or my compadre over at the Sobey's corporate store and donate $5 or $10 then we will match that as well."
Chapman adds they have been doing this for a number of years and have always been big supporters of the Food for Friends program.
"Food for Friends is something unique in Woodstock and I really like to support it because it does help those in our community who are disadvantaged."
Chapman says in past years this initiate has raised over $10,000 for Food for Friends and they are hoping to top that this year.
"Last year we raised just over $10,000 for the campaign in town, in previous years we have raised over $11,000 and $12,000 and over the years we have raised over $40,000 for the Food for Friends program."
