Farah Foster-Manning is getting ready to return home to Woodstock after completing the RAAM Race across America with Team One Mile.
WOODSTOCK - After a grueling 3,000 miles, Woodstock's Farah Foster-Manning is recovering after completing the RAAM One Mile Leadership Race.
Foster-Manning was just one of two Canadians taking part on Team One Mile that started in California and ended up in Maryland.
"So between the 8 of us, it was roughly between 300 K a day in a shift of 12 hours. We were expecting to do shifts of 6, but we changed our plan on the second day."
Her team has already raised well over $100,000 for the veterans charity Operation Second Chance and donations continue to pour in every day.
Foster-Manning says the heat in Arizona was tough, but the hardest part of the trip was the elevation in Denver.
"For me personally, the second day the elevation hit me, I was doing my part but it was mountains, straight mountains in Colorado and they were steep and we would do about 10 to 20 minute pulls each."
Foster-Manning actually had to go on the IV for a little bit after that second day in the elevation, but she was able to persevere and didn't miss a shift. She says this truly was an experience of a lifetime. The team averaged over 30 km/h for the entire race.
They 8 member team all stayed together on a bus for the trip. They drank plenty of pickle juice and ate lot's of potatoes as they looked to stay hydrated and ready to move to keep the team going.
You can find more information about the race and how you can donate to the cause online here. Listen to the full interview with Farah Foster Manning below:
