The Slots at the Woodstock Raceway could be going through some major changes with a new company at the helm.
WOODSTOCK - Big changes are coming to the Slots at the Woodstock Raceway. Gateway Casinos has officially taken over the gambling establishment.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says this all part of OLG's plan to modernize slots, casinos, and racetracks in Southwestern Ontario.
"It's been a while since they have changed the formula or refreshed the facilities so this will give a private enterprise an opportunity to bring more entertainment value, so you're not just going to the slots but you're going for a night out on the town."
Gateway is a Canadian company that runs 18 casinos in western Canada. Numerous Gateway executives also have a background with the Las Vegas entertainment industry, which means more shows could be coming to the Woodstock area.
Birtch tells Heart FM the takeover will not impact employees.
"All of the staff that are currently working at the slots, their jobs are safe, benefits and pension will continue. We look forward to a refresh and a new branding of that facility."
