Education Minister Laurel Broten says the government stands ready to respond to a threat of strikes by elementary school teachers. The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario warned yesterday of teacher walkouts next month. The union said parents will get 72-hour notices of strikes -- which would affect operations in every public elementary school in the province. Broten counters that the government has the power to impose a contract and prohibit any strike action.
