Local man at the centre of $325-million class-action lawsuit
A Tillsonburg man is named as one of the representative plaintiff's in a class action lawsuit over EMDC.
Michael Smith was incarcerated at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre from July 9th to the 12th of 2012.
Smith claims he was dragged by inmates and hit was a plastic tray, slicing his right cheek. He claims he was forced to clean and bandage his own wound, that later required 13-stitches and plastic surgery.
Smith is one of two representative plaintiff's that have come forward in a $325-million lawsuit.
The Ontario government is being sued on behalf of all people incarcerated at EMDC between Jan. 1, 2010 and Aug. 25, 2013.
The suit claims government broke Charter rights by subjecting inmates to cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment.
