Oxford County has decided to not get involved in the Gunn's Hill Wind Farm debate
The Environmental Review Tribunal against the Gunn's Hill Wind Farm continued today and will wrap up next Thursday at Oxford Centre.
Oxford County has stayed on the sidelines on this issue and have not supported the project or spoke against it at this point. However the Township of Norwich has let it be known they are not a willing host. Heart FM spoke with Warden David Mayberry on the issue and he says they will continue to watch this play out from the sidelines. "There hasn't been an official answer from the county. I think it is fair to say the County is seeking a greater reliance on renewable energy sources and wind might well be one of them."
Mayberry said they understand this is a divisive issue. "We in fact encourage or support the idea that we can have various opinions within the County, so that's really what we have some people in favour and some people opposed, it goes to a tribunal to make sure everything is done right and to make a final decision."
The East Oxford Community Alliance is the main opposition for the wind turbines and has made it their mission to not allow them on the Gunn's Hill Wind Farm. Hearings will continue next week and a decision is expected to come down next Thursday.
