Families can now apply for a Habitat for Humanity Home in Tillsonburg.
TILLSONBURG - Habitat for Humanity is looking for a family to move into a potential build in Tillsonburg.
The family must not only have need for housing, but also a willingness to partner by dedicating 500 volunteer hours to the organization.
Family Services Coordinator Bethany McLachlin says they will also have to pay a no interest, no down payment mortgage.
"We're looking for a steady income that has a working history. We need two years of history to know that's going to continue and its stable."
The family must bring in a combined household income between $33,600 and $64,500.
The Sweeney family fit all of the criteria when they moved into their Ingersoll home last year. They have three children; two daughters with myotonic muscular dystrophy and a son. The eldest daughter started experiencing breathing difficulties in their previous home, and faced physical barriers with the bathroom located on the second floor.
McLachlin says their new home has changed their lives for the better.
"Krista still comes here to our offices and does some volunteer work with us, so obviously they're happy with the changes that they've had in their live. The father Craig is able to just participate a little more fully at work because he knows that their home is a safe and healthy place for his family."
You can fill out a pre-application on their website. McLachlin will contact the eligible applicants in order to discuss the next steps of the process.
