Expect to pony up some serious dough, if you are caught driving distracted in 2019.
Ontario Provincial Police have released a statement saying that they will be making changes to the distracted driving laws, effective January 1st, 2019.
If an officer catches you on the road while distracted, the first conviction will be a fine of up to $1000, 3 demerit points to your driver's licence, and a 3 day licence suspension.
A second conviction will result in up to a $2000 fine, 6 demerit points, and a 7 day licence suspension.
And finally, a third conviction will lead to a max fine of $3000, 6 demerit points, and a 30 day licence suspension.
Police would like to remind all drivers that novices will be subject to the same fines as experienced drivers, and subject to the current sanctions in effect.
