Multiple groups have come together to put on a free event for families to help them cope with mental health struggles.
WOODSTOCK - Families, parents, and caregivers are invited to a special free event to learn more about mental health and wellness.
The Connecting Families For Mental Health and Wellbeing Event is happening at Fanshawe College to help equip parents for the many challenges they may be facing with their children.
The Thames Valley Parent Involvement Committee, the Thames Valley District School Board, London District Catholic School Board, Conseil scolaire catholique Providence, and the United Way teamed up to make this event happen.
Mental Health Lead and Supervisor of Social Work with London District Catholic School Board Sandra Savage says parents will walk away with a better understanding when it comes to some mental health issues.
"Participants will have an opportunity to attend more than one breakout session - they can connect with three breakout sessions so they can get a wide range of information about services and about topics that they're interested in."
These 'breakout' sessions will cover many different topics according to Mental Health Lead with the Thames Valley District School Board Gail Lalonde.
"Things like understanding childhood and adolescent anxiety, to how to support mental health and the transition from high school and post secondary school, how to have conversations with your child or adolescent around mental health and wellbeing, but also how to take care of yourself as a parent."
This is a free event and there will be childcare available as well. It's happening on November 5th from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Anyone interested in going should register by Saturday, October 29th. Online registration can be found here.
