A kids zone will be set up in Southside Park this Saturday, while Woodstock Minor Ball hosts its house league tournament.
WOODSTOCK - It's going to be a day of fun for kids in Southside Park.
The Homerun Heroes for Children's Health event will be taking place this Saturday, while Woodstock Minor Ball holds its house league tournament. It's hosted by the Children's Regional Volunteer Sub-Chapter with all of the proceeds going to the Children's Health Foundation.
Tarnya Petch is a co-chair for the group and explains why they decided to host this event.
"Our goal is to raise awareness about the Children's Health Foundation, highlight the thousands of families we support throughout the Children's Hospital and the Thames Valley Children's Centre and to raise funds to address the most critical needs at the Children's Hospital."
The first game should begin at 9:00 a.m. and the last one should end by 6:00 p.m. It's free to watch, but kids will be able to enjoy the kids' zone on Saturday for a $5 admission fee that lasts the whole day. Petch says there will be lots to do.
"We're going to be playing Bingo where everybody wins a prize, we have craft making with Do Good Oxford, we've got inflatable games, a Lego building station, Home Depot has provided a building zone where they can build their own stuff, we've got a free play area with bubbles in stuff, and we also have a card making table so we can make cards for kids in the hospital."
There's also going to be face painting, henna tattoos, performances from Rumple and Friends, and a meet and greet with Santa Ron. The kids will also be able to meet London Majors superstar Cleveland Brownlee for a donation, and they can bring home a printed picture with him for $5.
There are also going to be lots of vendors on site including freeze-dried snacks, designer handbags, homemade baby clips, and more.
Food trucks will be there on Saturday and for the rest of the tournament on Sunday. Saturday's roster includes Hissing Goose Coffee Roasters, Lions Club, Frank and Furters, Harbour Cheesecake, and Lost Emporium Ice Cream. Hissing Goose and Harbour Cheesecake will return on Sunday, along with Los Rolling Tacos, Crystal's Fries, Brannigan's Fish and Chips, and No No Nanette's Ice Cream.
