WOODSTOCK - The first day of school is almost here, ending summer for students in the Friendly City.
Safety is paramount on all school days, and Constable Shaylyn Jackson says the Woodstock Police Service will be conducting regular focused patrols in school zones throughout September to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.
"We know that the school zones become very busy this time of year. There's lots of parents dropping off kids, there's lots of pedestrian traffic that isn't typically there during the summer time and its all within a short time frame at the beginning of the day and the end of the day."
Jackson also gave tips for drivers to keep in mind this season such as being on the lookout for pedestrians and children climbing in and out of vehicles and not blocking crosswalks. A big one she wanted to mention however, were the no stopping zones.
"All of the school zones in the city have no stopping signs through them. What happens when people are dropping off their kids is they're stopping, then they're veering back into traffic. Or traffic becomes stop/start where kids are jumping out of vehicles on both sides, potentially jumping in front of a moving vehicle."
The police ask that you please consider all these tips so Woodstock students can safely and harmoniously return to school.
