A former Olympian provided some inspirational messages at the Ingersoll Chamber AGM.
INGERSOLL - A former Olympian, cancer survivor and the owner of Fluid Designs Composite Inc gave a presentation to the Ingersoll District Chamber of Commerce.
Gord Henry was a world class rower finishing 11th in the world at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul Korea. He shared his inspirational story to the crowd at their annual General Meeting. Henry is a cancer survivor and told the crowd about how his attitude helped him get through a dark time in his life.
"I treated it like rowing, I just wanted to get as physically fit for that challenge as I could and I thought that was more important psychologically than physically. Psychologically I needed to believe that I was doing everything I could do. The only thing I could do was just get fitter and stronger for the chemo. Mentally I had to get into that space, I had to get for the competition because chemotherapy is going to take a lot out of you, it's you versus the chemo and you have to come out on top."
Henry also talked about how he transitioned from being an Olympian, to a salesmen, to eventually owning his own company. He was actually fired from his first sales job where he sold rowing boats because the son in law of the owner was upset that he was making more money. Less than 24 hours after getting fired he was offered an even better job. The new job eventually led to him owning his own company where he now has a grasp on 50 percent of the American market for single person rowing boats.
The Ingersoll District Chamber of Commerce also approved their 2016 year in review at the meeting and introduced the new directors on the board. The chamber also made a donation to the London Regional Cancer treatment centre in Henry's honour.
