Mayor Jerry Acchione says 2025 was a banner year for construction and industrial for the City of Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council is about to look over the annual building report for 2025.

It will be presented during this Thursday's council meeting and Mayor Jerry Acchione gave us a sneak peak during his interview on the Heart FM Morning Show today.

"Construction activity in 2025 increased with a total construction value $285.1 million in construction. To put it in perspective, 2024 was $225 million."

The Friendly City had averaged around $220 million in previous years.

Mayor Acchione says the number of building permits also increased from 546 in 2024 to 710 in 2025, and it's primarily commercial construction.

"It's businesses coming with employable new jobs, great jobs, and a really good tax base for residents to help us offset the taxes. The more we increase businesses, the lower the taxes will be in a residential circumstance."

Thursday's City Council meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube page. You can also find the meeting agenda online here.

Mayor Acchione also discussed the following during his interview this morning:

- His experience witnessing Chilly Charlie's Groundhog Day prognostication at South Gate Centre on Monday.

- The Woodstock Long Services Awards that were held in the new Boughtflower Hall at South Gate Centre recently.

- Inspector Jamie Taylor becoming the Deputy Chief of Woodstock Police this coming April.

- The Growth Forecast that was presented at the last Oxford County Council meeting.

- Black History Month events in Woodstock and Oxford County.

- He also thanked all of the Water and Public Works employees who have been hard at work during the cold weather over the past few weeks.
