Erica Hughes started her new role in November.
OXFORD - It's Mentoring Month for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
One of the newest members of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County (BBBSOC) team is Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Erica Hughes, and she explained what Mentoring Month is all about.
"We really just want to promote what we do here at Big Brothers Big Sisters but also just recognize the need in the community. Right now we have about 130 youth in our community that are on our waitlist and we're really just looking forward to getting those young people matched with individuals that will provide an impact on their life."
Part of Hughes' job is to engage the community and get them to volunteer with BBBSOC, so who better then her to give an idea of what BBSOC is looking for in a mentor.
"Honestly, a commitment is the first thing. Being there, being available and being ready to spend as little as an hour, up to about four hours a week but then also someone who can help to build those impactful relationships that we're looking for to make change."
