His goal was to run across Canada and 32 years later, we continue to run in his memory. People across Canada and the world will run in the annual Terry Fox Run Sunday. Locally, the run is being held at the BDO Dunwoody parking lot on Graham Street. Bill Gillespie, Chair of the Terry Fox Run committee for the Lions Club of Woodstock says they have a number of course options for those participating, "1 kilometre, 2.5 kilometre, 5 kilometre and 10 kilometre; very friendly for runners, joggers, rollerbladers, skateboards, bikes, people pushing strollers, we even had some people do it in wheelchairs last year. It's in the older part of Woodstock, the majority of the course is shaded; seems to be a very friendly course for those people who become involved". Gillespie says they are hoping to have 320 participants with a goal of $32,000 for the 32nd annual run. Registrations begin onsite at 10 am or people can register prior to the event by calling the Terry Fox Foundation in Toronto at 1-888-836-9786 or Bill Gillespie at 519-537-7792. To sign up or make an online donation click here. According to Gillespie, the courses should be ready to go around 9 am so if people have other commitments but still want to participate, they can head down before 10 o'clock and get a head start on the run. "We know it's difficult with all the different events that are going on in our community, but the one thing our community is known for is its strong support of worthwhile charities". Gillespie says the Terry Fox Run is the grandfather of all the charities.
