Woodstock resident Diane Langner named as one of the Pan Am Game torchbearers
WOODSTOCK - We now know one of the people who will be carrying the Pan Am Games torch through Woodstock in June.
Diane Langner was selected as part of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation Pass It ONtario Program through a nomination by the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce.
Langner says she was shocked and elated to have been selected after knowing for months that she was a nominee.
"I've known since Christmas actually that my name was put forward but there is a large process that needs to take place before you actually become a torchbearer. You have to do a background check, you have to get a portrait done, there's quite a few things that have to be done before you're an official torchbearer."
President of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce David Coad says Diane is a champion in the community who signifies the spirit of the Pan Am torchbearer through her leadership and dedication to many local charitable organizations.
Langner says she just hopes she doesn't fall on the day of the torch run.
"Preparation -- I don't really have to do much of anything. I don't know what leg I'm doing through Woodstock. I know it's June 18 but I don't have any particulars as of yet. 3-6 weeks before the torch comes through Woodstock then they will let us know more details."
Langner says she hopes everyone supports the games and purchases a ticket.
