County of Oxford and City of Woodstock settle their lawsuit outside of court.
OXFORD COUNTY -- The legal battle between the City of Woodstock and County of Oxford has been settled.
During a closed session meeting on September 24th, the County agreed to pay the $5,000 in legal fees the City incurred on top of their own $2,500 in legal fees surrounding the approval of cross-border servicing.
In May, a Norwich Township resident requested approval from the County to hook up to the Tillsonburg Sanitary Collection System after their septic system failed. The home was not within the Town's boundaries but the homeowners felt this was the best option for their home, family, environment and financially.
All of the councillors in attendance approved the motion expect for Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski. Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey was absent from this meeting.
The connection to the Tillsonburg Sanitary Collection System was completed on June 19th.
The City then filed their lawsuit on July 4th stating the wastewater connection did not comply with the County's Official Plan.
The legal action was adjourned until October in favour of an opportunity to settle the case out of court.
During the meeting on September 24th, the County not only agreed to pay for the legal costs incurred by both parties but also only consider water and wastewater connections outside of municipal boundaries if they comply with the Official Plan.
The full closed session report can be found on the County's web site; click here for the report.
