Ontario's Ag Minister makes his first ever stop at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show
WOODSTOCK - Ontario's newest Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs made his first ever stop at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show Tuesday.
Jeff Leal was on hand to help cut the ribbon at the opening ceremonies.
"I certainly believe that it is part of my responsibility as Minister. I love getting out on back concessions. I love getting out in smaller communities in Ontario and Woodstock is a great area. We know this is part of the great farming area of Southwestern Ontario that is so important to Ontario's economy."
Leal says he's excited to tour the grounds and see the tractors.
"I see the newest technology in tractors like the GPS systems that tell you exactly where to plant the seed with all of the software packages to make that happen. It's very exciting and you know, the agri-food sector is the leading edge of innovation --- new innovations each and every day so that's so important."
Leal says if farmers work together with the government they should be able to meet the Premier's goal of creating 120 thousand additional jobs in the sector by 2020.
