Local MPP Ernie Hardeman has items he wishes to tackle
WOODSTOCK - The Ontario Legislature resumes today with the new Liberal majority government.
Local MPP Ernie Hardeman says there are a few items he plans to tackle in the fall session.
"We have been working with the Minister of Environment on the Beachville Air Quality Studies and we have been unable to get the information promised so we will be working that to try and get all that and some information for the public to digest and make sure that somebody is looking after the quality of the air."
Another point of interest for Hardeman is keeping an eye on government spending "and how we are going to accomplish the reduction of the deficit by 2017/18 which has been promised so we are hopefully going to be able to hold them accountable to make sure they do that and I think it's going to take a lot of work to get that done but there's no better time to start than right now."
Hardeman says a Private Members Bill will be introduced by his party in the next few days to allow poppy donation bins in the offices of MPPs.
"Presently, the interpretation of the Member's Integrity Act says that we are not allowed to take donations in our office and I think in most cases that's an appropriate statement to make except I think for poppy day. I think our veterans deserve our help in trying to make that day a successful event so we are going to have a bill to exempt that from the Integrity Act."
Hardeman added he will not be seeking the Progressive Conservative leadership. The new leader will be announced May 9 of next year.
