A live round of ammunition was located by students while playing basketball at elementary school in Delhi today.
DELHI - Norfolk OPP say a live round of ammunition was discovered by a group of elementary students in Delhi.
Police were called this afternoon after the kids found the ammunition while playing a game of basketball. Constable Ed Sanchuk says the kids did the right thing.
"That student did the right thing and subsequently turned that over to a teacher, who in turn contacted police. Officers arrived at the school and the Principal turned over the ammunition to the officer and it was taken back to our detachment to be properly disposed of."
Sanchuk did say there is no threat to public safety and it does appear to be an isolated incident. It was a small calibre round and it does look old and weathered. OPP are investigating how it ended up at a playground at an Elementary School.
Anyone with information on this is asked to contact Norfolk OPP or Crime Stoppers.
