The victim thought they were getting investment advice from a friend on Facebook but it turns out they were getting scammed.
NORFOLK COUNTY - Norfolk OPP are warning the public to never take investment advice from Facebook.
OPP are investigating a fraud after a local resident lost over $41,000. Police say the victim got misleading investment advice from a friend on Facebook. This led them to send around $41,000 in Bitcoin, American Express gift cards and iTunes cards.
It was later discovered the friends Facebook account had been compromised at which time the victim realized that this was a scam and contacted police.
Police are reminding everyone to be cautious when messaging with friends or strangers online. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
A reputable and certified investment organization should be contact when investing large sums of money.
