Hillary Elliott will be representing Canada in the Modern Pentathlon.
INGERSOLL - A 16 year old from Ingersoll is gearing up to represent Canada at the Pan Am games in the Modern Pentathlon.
Hillary Elliott has been training for this moment for her entire life and tells Heart FM she was at a competition in Germany when she got the call saying she had made Team Canada. "I checked my emails and I had some official emails saying I had qualified and I was really excited. I didn't know what to do - it still hasn't sunk in yet.
"Honestly it's an honour. It makes you feel really proud to be Canadian, especially having the games in your own country, It's just so exciting to have everyone come here and represent your own country right in Toronto - it's a really cool experience," says Elliott.
Over the course of one day she will compete in fencing, swimming, horse show jumping, running, and shooting. The winner will be determined by the combined score.
Elliott will be competing on Thursday June 18th in Scarborough. Unfortunately the event has already sold out and she was only able to get one ticket to the event, and that ticket is going to her mother. Elliott says her best event is swimming and thinks if she can stay consistent in the pool and during the fencing portion of the event she will do just fine.
