Residents along the 11th Line are growing increasingly frustrated with smells from the Odour Control Facility. Residents say since Victoria Day weekend, they have had to endure horrible smells and their patience is growing thin. The residents asked for a meeting with the Mayor and Warden for an update and were told by County Public Works that the Odour Control Facility was not working as effectively as it should. Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski says the issue stems from a frozen pipe a few months back. "There was an accidental spill out there because the hydro went off one night, and the Ministry of Environment was called out. Unfortunately none of this was communicated to the City of Woodstock so if residents had called up to say there's smells out in that area, at least city staff could say, yes, the County's looking into it." In terms of informing the public or media, there's been no indication from the County at any point over the last month, that there has been a problem at the facility. Sobeski says the City was only informed of the problem last week and that was by residents which highlights the City and County's need for better communication. Sobeski says although it's a County facility, it is also a city issue. "These forcemains, there's 3 of them that impact on the city, so in that way it becomes a city problem. It not only becomes important we solve the issue for the residents on the 11th Line, we also want to emphasize as these things are coming into town, it was always recognized there was the potential for this to happen."
