Mobile OPP Reporting Tool

Minor incidents can now be reported online or via mobile device.

OXFORD - The OPP have brought forth a new method of reporting minor crime right from your phone.

Although the online reporting form has been available for some time now, the website can also be accessed on a mobile device. The purpose of the online form is to report minor incidents such as:

- Lost/missing property under $5,000
- Stolen license plates or validation stickers
- Theft from a vehicle under $5,000
- Mischief/damage to a vehicle under $5,000
- Mischief/damage to property (other than a vehicle) under $5,000
- Theft under $5,000
- Driving Complaint

Community service and media relations officer with Oxford OPP Stacey Culbert gives an example of when this service can be used.

"Let's give an example of vehicle entries - so maybe these people in the past may not have wanted a officer to come to their house because there was maybe just a GPS stolen. And they thought 'You know what, I don't feel there's a need to report it.' This gives them another option to just say, 'You know what, I'm just going to report this information  - I don't need to see a police officer."

"But that information is key to us because then we're able to maybe say, 'Okay there were several entries made. Maybe some that we didn't even know about yet.' Here through the online reporting system we can then create a plan of action from there."

Hopefully this service will free up patrol officers to attend scenes of major crime and allow officer to detect patterns in suspicious behaviour.

If necessary an occurrence number can be issued for insurance reasons. All you need to do is indicate you would like contact back when you fill out the form.

The form can be found through OPP.ca.

Simply click on 'Start a report' and you're on your way.
