Local dignitaries were on hand to greet the ultra marathon runners who are going across Ontario to raise awareness about the plight of monarch butterflies.
TILLSONBURG - The Monarch Ultra Relay made a stop in Tillsonburg on Monday.
This is a 21 day run that raises awareness for the plight of the monarch butterflies. Local dignitaries, including Mayor Stephen Molnar were on hand to greet the marathon runners for a special ceremony at the Kingsmen Bandshell yesterday.
The Monarch Ultra relay team started their journey in Peterborough with stops in Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, along Lake Erie, and then looping back up to Barrie. Ultra-runners run between 30km and 50km over 21 days.
They're looking to raise awareness about monarch and pollinator conservation and the team hopes to inspire and inform students and citizens across the Province. You can read more about their journey online here.
