Monkeypox Warning Issued for Canadian Travellers

The Public Health Agency of Canada says travellers could find themselves subject to isolation or other safety measures if they catch monkeypox while visiting other countries.

CANADA - The Public Health Agency of Canada is warning travellers to be careful, with cases of monkeypox on the rise.

It says Canadians could find themselves subject to isolation or other safety measures if they fall ill while travelling abroad. The travel notice applies to several countries including Germany, Spain and the UK.

Officials say monkeypox spreads through close contact with the virus on humans or objects such as bed linens. The symptoms of monkeypox include fever, muscle aches, headache and lesions on the skin. It can be fatal, but it's not usually.

A total of 97 cases of monkeypox have been reported in Canada so far. Ninety of those cases are in Quebec, five are in Ontario, one is Alberta and one has been reported in British Columbia.
